NLS was approached to design a private leisure complex, including outdoor swimming pool, in a Grade II* Jacobean country house and landscape garden in Berkshire. The beautiful English landscaped garden was originally designed in 1720 by Charles Bridgeman, one of the founders of the naturalistic garden style.
NLS achieved planning on the scheme with a commendation from English Heritage. The subterranean building was build within a Portland stone retaining wall. This wall structure, which also forms the balustrade to the lawn, creates a bridge beam, negating the need for internal columns.
